s' Anointing
Anointing simply means, the Holy Spirit being poured on you; the baptism or the infilling of the Holy Spirit. When God anoint someone, He fills the person with His Spirit for a specific purpose(s). The oil poured on him physically is only a symbol; it is the Spirit that descends on you spiritually so that you are moved in the Spirit to do the will of God. This is what is known as "the Anointing of God".
In the Greek version of the New Testament, two words were used to represent anointing;
“Aleipho” – To rub oil on someone for medicinal purposes, Mark 6:13, Jas 5:14, and, “Chrio” – Spiritual anointing of the Holy Ghost; from this we get, “Christos” – The anointed One, or Anointed.
Jesus Christ is the Anointed One, no one physically anointed him with oil, God anointed him with the Holy Spirit to do what He sent him to do on this earth.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18, 19
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Ac 10:38
Jesus promised us that the miraculous workings of the Holy Spirit shall be a sign that shall follow those that shall believe the message of the gospel, and for that matter become Christians. This is because we shall also receive the same Holy Spirit that filled Jesus and let him perform all those signs and wonders. So Christians are also anointed when the Holy Ghost baptizes us. Any Christian that has been baptized in the Holy Ghost is an anointed of God to represent Christ on earth. Mark 16:16-18
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God. 2Co 1:21
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 1Jo 2:20
But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 1Jo 2:27
When I was young I always prayed that God would give me the anointing of Elisha which is the double portion of Elijah’s anointing. Little did I know that Christ is greater than Elisha, and we Christians operate under the double portion of Christ’s anointing instead of Elijah's. Have you prayed that prayer before; or do you still think in the same way? What do you think Jesus meant when he said;
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father? John 14:12.
Elijah did greater works, but Elisha did greater works than him because he was operating under the double portion of Elijah’s anointing; and so are we Christians under that of Christ Jesus. In fact Paul calls this entire salvation work of Christ, “A Mystery,” and so he prays for us that we may be enlightened to comprehend what this is all about.
Why are Christians Anointed?
Christians on earth need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. As children of God, we are called to live godly righteous lives in the midst of an ungodly sinful world and shine forth for the world to see. Without this anointing, to live a Christian life on this earth would never be possible. The Holy Spirit gives power to the believer to overcome the devil and He bears His fruit in the believer’s heart so that the believer can live as the light of the world. Gal 5:22-23. Jesus needed this Holy Ghost anointing because he emptied himself of His divinity and became man (He was both God and Man). It’s only man that needs to be anointed with the Holy Spirit in other to live a victorious life; a life full of the Spirit. We need the power and help of the Holy Spirit so that we can fulfill the great commission committed to us.
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Ac 1:8
God anoints us with His Spirit and sets us apart to live spiritual lives. The spiritual life is the process of growing up and maturing in your relationship to God by living in the power and enablement of the Holy Spirit, so that you increasingly view life from God’s perspective. The spiritual man follows God’s ways and obeys His Word, manifest the holy character of Jesus Christ in attitudes and actions, and manifest the power of the Holy Spirit in his daily living. The spiritual life is all about progressing from being a worldly Christian to a spiritual Christian; from being a babe to adulthood, from being immature to maturity.
That you might walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Col 1:10
The Essence of our Anointing
In summery, these are the essnce of our being anointed by God. When we are anointed or baptized in the Holy Spirit, He fills us and gives us:
a. Power
–To witness Christ everywhere Acts 1:8
–To defeat the kingdom of darkness Luke 10:19
–To cast out devils and speak in praying/heavenly and foreign tongues Mark 16:17, 1 Cor 14:2, 4
–To heal the sick and live victoriously Mark 16:18
b. Bears His fruit in us
–To make us overcome the works of the fresh Gal 5:16-17
–To make us manifest Christ’s characters Gal 5:22-23
–To make us become like Christ 2Co 3:18, 1Jo 3:2
c. Spiritual Gifts
–To edify the Church of Christ Eph 4:11-12
–To edify the believer 1 Cor 14:4

If you are a Christian and you know you have not yet been baptized in the Holy Spirit, you need that baptism right away; you can never bear the fruit of the Spirit and you shall always see yourself manifesting the fruit of darkness instead of the fruit of light. You can never glorify God with your life, because the One who will increasingly make that possible is not yet there!
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Ac 19:2, 6
Never believe those who claim the baptism of the Holy Ghost is no more; they are only here to lead you Hell for real. They never take God at His Word but try to interpret them to suit their false doctrines. Get the anointing, and start moving – Forward Match!
